Best Friends Animal Society - Dogtown

Best Friends Animal Society - Dogtown: "It's not just a sanctuary - it's Dogtown!

Dogtown is the most welcoming place on earth. They may have been homeless, but none of the dogs here are sad and forlorn.

Everywhere you go, you're greeted with wagging tails, whelps of excitement and big, friendly eyes.

This is truly a neighborly, all-American town."

A lion hugs and kisses a woman

A WOMAN IN COLUMBIA FOUND A LION CUB, WHO WAS WOUNDED AND HUNGRY. SHE TOOK HIM HOME AND RAISED HIM UNTIL HE WAS TOO BIG TO KEEP AT HOME. SHE THEN TOOK HIM TO THE LOCAL ZOO, BUT SHE VISITS HIM EVERY DAY... LOOK AT HOW HE GREETS HER!

Even though this is not Rescuing Rover related. This is a wonderful example of taming the lion. He loves and adores this woman who saved his life. Look at his face. You see the joy. The way he reached through the bars and gave her the biggest lion hug he could. How endearing. . .

Adams Dog Training and Dog Behavior

Get Your Dog

"Transform Your Dog Into The Pet

Adams Dog Training and Dog Behavior

Another--Just A Dog

From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog," or, "that's a lot of money for just a dog." They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a dog."

Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog." Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog," but I did not once feel slighted.

Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you will probably understand phases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise." "Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. "Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that make me a better person.

Because of "just a dog" I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.

"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.

I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog" but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a human."

So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog." just smile, because they "just don't understand."

Just a dog. . .

The vet has not given up. He will be coming home tonight rehydrated, the poppy’s blessed gift in his veins, in a bottle of pills for later.

No betrayed look as he was led into the vet’s back room. We’d sat on the floor together, the doctor talking about humps and getting past them, and yet the final subject came up, was spoken at last. She can refer us to someone who will come to the house, when it is time.

All the walks delayed, all the impatient shoves when he blocked the hall, all the times I averted my eyes from his as I slipped out the front door, sometimes for days. He would not sleep for the first two days I was gone. He would wait for me by the front window. Opportunities lost.

Rescuing Rover Volunteer Recruitment

To view LARGER pictures of our Volunteer Recruitment Campaign, please click on picture above and then select "All sizes" and select the size you want.

The Campaign was a great success. Here are some of the pictures taken at the event. One of our Pet Partners is Cody & Company. Many thanks for helping us during the event.

We had loads of people that requested information to volunteer. We are very proud. We also adopted Ernest to a great home.

Our Perfect Petzzz Adoption Center was a great success--It was such a great attraction. Lots of kids wanted to touch the pets and convince their moms to take them home! ( Perfect Petzzz are stuffed dogs & cats that actually breathe--very lifelike--they come with rabies tag, collar, adoption certificate, bed, brush and carrier) We adopted out 4 of our "alternative pets" to some great homes.

Donations were very much appreciated. Thank you to all. To see other Perfect Petzzz available, click on picture.

He Carried His Dog To The SPCA

He carried his dog to the S.P.C.A.
for the old man will be put in a home.
But they told him he can't have an animal there...
so tomorrow he'll move in alone.

With tears in his eyes, he handed his dog to the woman who worked there that day.
But sorrow had filled the poor ol' man's heart when he handed ol' Laddie away.

Games To Play With Your Dog

Part I: How To Keep Your Dog Mentally Stimulated

I was having a conversation with a friend of mine and I thought I would quickly send this out to you, before I leave for the weekend.

We were discussing how to keep your dog's mind stimulated.

Remember: Bored dogs cause problems. If you don't keep your dog's mind stimulated, chances are that he'll find activities to stimulate his mind, himself. And you won't like those activities. :)

A dog that is mentally stimulated on a daily basis is a happy dog. And happy dogs don't cause dog problems.

Here's a quick list of how to keep your dog mentally stimulated: To continue, click here:

Am I Famous Now?

I was born today. One of 10. My Daddy is very famous. I have lots of half brothers and sisters. My Mother is very famous. Since she got famous, she has only had puppies. No more loving hands, no more fun trips... just puppies. She is always sad when they leave her. . . .for more click here:The Pet Press ~ For People That Love Animals

The Old Man and His Dog

"Watch out! You nearly broad-sided that car!" My father yelled at me. "Can't you do anything right?"

Those words hurt worse than blows. I turned my head toward the elderly man in the seat beside me, daring me to challenge him. A lump rose in my throat as I averted my eyes. I wasn't prepared for another battle.

"I saw the car, Dad. Please don't yell at me when I'm driving." My voice was measured and steady, sounding far calmer than I really felt. Dad glared at me, then turned away and settled back. . .

In Hope, An Animal Shelter Story

As a nation, we claim to love cats and dogs. Millions of households have pets, and billions of dollars are spent yearly on pet supplies and food. But as a nation, we should take a hard, sobering look at a different annual statistic: the millions of dogs and cats given up to shelters or left to die on the streets. And the numbers tell only half the story.

Every cat or dog who dies as a result of pet overpopulation—whether humanely in a shelter or by injury, disease, or neglect—is an animal who, more often than not, would have made a wonderful companion, if given the chance. Tremendous as the problem of pet overpopulation is, it can be solved if each of us takes just one small step, starting with not allowing our animals to breed. Here's information about this crisis and why spaying and neutering is the first step to a solution. -HSUS

The Witness Trailer

The Witness

What's the film about? Howard Rosenberg, in the Los Angeles Times, says "The Witness is one man's truth that cries out for mass exposure...may be the most important and persuasive film about animals ever made. It tells a deeply soulful story of redemption that is quite remarkable, one whose unlikely center is a 44-year-old former tough guy whose personal odyssey, from disdain of animals to being their champion, merits a TV movie or feature film. He's Eddie Lama."

Get to know Eddie. He will change your life, soften your heart, and move you to tears.

What To Do When You Find a Stray Dog or Cat | The Humane Society of the United States

"You're in your car, heading somewhere or other, a long list of things to accomplish and already running late. Suddenly, you see him—a dog, there, by the side of the road. Becoming a Foster Parent: Are You Ready?

Because I have been fostering shelter dogs for more than 20 years, I am often asked the same questions: “Why do you foster?” “How do you find the time?” “How do you choose the right animal?” “How do you know if they’ll get along with your pets?” “How do you keep from getting attached?”
